ACTIZYME Compost Accelerator

Actizyme compost accelerator speeds up the composting process, reduces odours and fly problems. It contains additional special bacteria and enzymes which degrade vegetable wastes.

How does Actizyme Compost Accelerator work?

Actizyme Compost Accelerator adds necessary micro-organisms, Bacteria, Enzymes and other growing media to accelerate and begin (or speed up) the first stage of garden composting. Without these micro-organisms your compost heap/bin would become a smelly sludge.

Most compost bins will naturally have some micro-organisms present but with the constant addition of dry matter like straw and woody material (all of which is needed for successful composting) these microbes will struggle to keep up – especially in the colder months.

Enzymes are used throughout nature to break down and ‘digest’ protein, starch, cellulose, grease, fat, etc into smaller components which can then in turn be further broken down by microbial action. Actizyme compost accelerator includes enzymes specially designed for use in compost bins and they have 2 main functions –

a)     They immediately begin the initial breakdown of the compost until the microbes have increased in number enough to begin their work effectively.

b)    Because the enzymes have begun breaking down the compost, the ongoing breakdown of the compost by the microbes is that much quicker.

For top quality compost it is worthwhile to mix the types of waste material. For example a mixture of grass clippings, small crushed twigs, straw and leaves, kitchen waste etc. is preferable to a mixture comprising kitchen waste alone.

Directions

Add 1 tablespoon (10g) into 1/2 cup water. leave for 30-60 minutes then stir and pour evenly over the material to be composted. Repeat as each major layer of waste is added. More frequent dosing will give faster and better results.
